Project: Þráður jarðar
Year: 2026
Þráður jarðar is a photobook on the history of weaving in Iceland, where wool, stone and landscape have shaped a material culture passed from hand to hand. Its title means “thread of the earth”: a physical and temporal bond between people and the land they inhabit. The publication takes that idea as its method, recovering and cataloguing the island’s material identity through documentary photography.

Information:
The project explores how to translate texture, rootedness and landscape into an editorial system that supports the images rather than competing with them. Structure, typography and composition work as quiet tools, building a restrained visual language that stays open to the imperfection of the material and the strength of the photographic narrative.

A classic serif title, which keeps the Icelandic characters Þ and Ð, is paired with small technical captions and numbered plates that borrow the logic of the museum catalogue. Portraits, still lifes of tools and raw wool, and wide landscapes alternate with generous white space, so the reader moves through the book at the slow pace of the craft itself. The system extends beyond the page into the exhibition Hands, Wool and Stone, where the same typography and grid organise poster and display.
